Regeneration

North East Derbyshire District Council plays a leading role in the initiation, development, and delivery of transformational regeneration projects across the district.

An important part of Regeneration is to plan for activity that will improve the area. An aspect to our work is to investigate and plan how these improvements can take place. You can read about the plans for areas in the District in our Masterplans and Investment Plans webpage

Clay Cross

The £24.1m Clay Cross Town Deal currently taking place will extend the historic town centre’s core through the provision of high quality public space, new commercial units for leisure and food & drink and a new public square. The restoration and re-use of an important heritage building will anchor and focus the new development, with the aim of bringing in new businesses and increasing footfall across the town.

Regeneration of the district’s other three towns (Killamarsh, Dronfield and Eckington) is a key objective for NEDDC. Phase 1 of the regeneration of the Civic Centre area in Dronfield is underway with a £500,000 improvement of the public realm.

Plans are also ongoing for the transformation of Eckington and Killamarsh town centres as funding becomes available. You can read through the master plans to find out more about analysis and proposals for each town.

Our Town Centres section also provides additional information on each of the four towns in the district.

The Avenue, Wingerworth

Following a £180m remediation and restoration project, The Avenue development in Wingerworth is in its 6th year of delivery within a 15 year programme.

This is the largest and most complex regeneration project ever undertaken in the district and to date has seen the creation of new wetlands, greenways and the construction of high-quality housing. Phase 2 will see additional new homes, a primary school and public open space. The provision of modern commercial premises is a key objective to bringing high quality jobs into the area.
