Compulsory micro-chipping for all cats introduced

From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old.

Any owner found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500.

This new law will make it easier for lost or stray cats to be reunited with their owners and to be returned home safely.

If your pet cat is not microchipped make enquiries, in the first instance, with your registered vet.
