Armed Forces Week kicks off with a flag raising

Today, 24th June 2024 marks the start of Armed Forces Week, which leads to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29th June 2024. To show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, the Armed Forces Day flag was raised outside of the District Council Office’s at Mill Lane with our Leader, our Armed Forces Champion and invited guests from local Armed Forces support groups.

Afterwards, guests were invited for refreshments, which was an opportunity to catch-up, share information, and highlight any current issues within the Armed Forces community in the District.

Cllr Fawcett said, “It was an honour to raise the Armed Forces Day flag to show the Council’s support for the Armed Forces community in the district. However, today is about people not flags, so I am delighted to have been able to host members of the local Armed Forces Family.

“I would like to thank the representatives from SSAFA, STAND TO and the Buddy Buddy group for attending the event, and for the support they deliver to the Armed Forces Community in the local area.”
