The Shirland and Higham Parish Neighbourhood Plan has been written by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and approved by the Parish Council. It proposes a number of policies on housing, employment, the environment and community facilities.
The Plan has now been Examined by an independent Examiner.

The Examiner’s conclusions are that, subject to modifications, the Plan may go forward to Public Referendum in the Parish.
The Council has decided that the Plan, as amended in line with the Examiner’s Report recommendations, may go forward to Public Referendum.
A Referendum relating to the adoption of the Shirland and Higham Parish Neighbourhood Plan will be held on 12 September 2024.

Examination of the Shirland and Higham Neighbourhood Plan
Neighbourhood Plan has been written by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and approved by the Parish Council. It proposes a number of policies on housing, employment, the environment and community facilities.
The Plan was submitted to both North East Derbyshire District Council, and a public consultation took place on the Submission Draft Plan for six weeks from Tuesday 16th January to Wednesday 28th February 2024.

The Plan is now subject to Examination.
The examiner appointed to inspect and produce a report on the Plan is Chris Collison. The Examiner has provided an initial letter Examiner Initial Letter - Shirland and Higham NDP Independent Examination (.pdf | 52.8kb) to explain his role.
Once the examination is complete, depending on the Examiner’s conclusions, North East Derbyshire District Council will decide whether the Plan may go forward to Public Referendum in the Parish.
Submission of the Shirland and Higham Neighbourhood Plan
The Shirland and Higham Neighbourhood Development Plan has been written by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and approved by the Parish Council. It proposes a number of policies on housing provision, employment, the environment and community facilities. The Parish Council consulted on the Draft Plan from Monday 22nd May to Monday 3rd July 2023, and views from those consultations helped inform changes to the document. The Draft Plan has now been submitted to both North East Derbyshire District Council.
The Plan was subject to a period of consultation for 6 weeks, from Tuesday 16th January to Wednesday 28th February 2024.
