  • Devolution Deals Open or Close

North East Derbyshire District Council opted to be a constituent member of the proposed North Midlands Combined Authority and a non constituent member of the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Combined Authority. This agreement was reached on 2 March 2016

The devolution deal will see controls over a fund estimated to be around £30million per year over 30 years handed over to the region in exchange for accepting a Mayor to be elected in May 2017. The funding is based upon a number of themes including skills, apprenticeships, employment, housing and planning, transport, business support, trade and investment.

The Mayor would not impact in any way on our existing powers but would have oversight of the new powers devolved from the Government and would campaign on behalf of the area for greater devolution in the future.

Staying as a non constituent member of the Sheffield City Region will enable us to continue our joint working. The Council has already, and continues to, work well with neighbouring authorities to bring about many benefits to the area including Growth Hub Funding packages, supporting the roll out of the Derbyshire Broadband initiative, securing additional employment land with Enterprise Zone status for Markham Vale and improvements to the A61 corridor.

Although the legislation enables local councils to make a choice on membership status, the final decision on the establishment of a Combined Authority and the Devolution Deal is made by the Secretary of State, who will consider if this improves the exercise of statutory functions across the proposed North Midlands CA area and the SCR CA area.

  • Partnership Team Open or Close

The Partnership Team is responsible for bringing partners together to tackle inequality in our most deprived communities and will work to attract external funding to fund initiatives and projects across the district.

As well as involving and engaging stakeholders in this work, we are collating local statistics and information to help us to develop a real and genuine understanding and sound evidence base of local community needs.

The Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) data for North East Derbyshire District Wards is available for 2010 and 2015 and more information, including interactive maps, is available from the Derbyshire Observatory at  https://observatory.derbyshire.gov.uk/IAS/Custom/Pages/People/poverty.aspx

The Team also has responsibility for:

Overseeing the funding process for the Council’s Voluntary and Community Sector,

Supporting Grassland Hasmoor, the Grassmoor and Hasland Big Local initiative,

Supporting the Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant Scheme,

Supporting the establishment of the Danesmoor Thriving Communities Pilot,

    Delivering the BNED LEADER Approach,

Administration of the North East Derbyshire Business Growth Fund for non-LEADER areas,

Commissioning and monitoring activity on behalf of the Healthy NED Partnership

  • Strategic Alliance Open or Close

The strategic allicance was formed in April 2011 between North East Derbyshire District Council and Bolsover District Council. The aim was to cut costs, harmonise the workplace and provide joint services for both areas, utilising both districts to better serve our residents and customers.

A joint Chief Executive was appointed, and in turn appointed a strategic alliance management team.

To gain a better overview and understanding of the way we work and the cost savings achieved, please look at our Annual Report.
